# Appalize Shots: a store screenshot designer that runs on the phone, built by ODEL

> How ODEL built Appalize Shots, a mobile app for designing App Store and Google Play screenshots on the device, with six layouts, multi-screen editing and PNG or ZIP export, and no account.

Appalize Shots is a mobile app for designing App Store and Google Play screenshots on the device, designed and built by ODEL as a companion to the Appalize ASO platform. Users pick one of six editable layouts, edit several screens at once with undo and redo, set device frames, typography, colors and cropping, and export full-resolution PNGs, a multi-size ZIP or an editable backup. There is no account, backend or telemetry: screenshots and text stay on the device. It is built with Capacitor 8, Vite and strict TypeScript without a UI framework, with a custom StoreKit plugin for the Shots Pro purchase. The app is 4.6 MB. It shows how small and private a focused tool can be.

## The problem

App developers and marketers need a consistent set of store screenshots, usually built in desktop or browser tools. Setting up every store size by hand is slow. Appalize Shots builds the whole set on the phone and exports the sizes together.

## What ODEL built

- Six editable screenshot layouts
- Multi-screen editing with undo and redo
- Device frames, typography, colors and cropping
- Export as full-resolution PNGs or a multi-size ZIP
- Editable backups the user keeps
- No account and no upload

## Technology

- **App**: Capacitor 8, Vite and strict TypeScript, no UI framework
- **Data**: On the device; no account, backend, paid API or telemetry
- **Purchases**: Custom StoreKit plugin
- **Platforms**: iOS and Android

## Launch and growth

- Live on the App Store (iOS 15.0 or later)
- Version 1.0, 4.6 MB
- Store listing in English
- Free download with a Shots Pro purchase

## What we learned

- Skipping a UI framework and a backend kept the app at 4.6 MB with nothing to host. For a client tool with one user and local files, the simplest stack can be the right one.
- A mobile companion can extend a SaaS product into a new store without sharing its backend.
