# Android app development with React Native and Expo, published on Google Play in your name

> ODEL builds Android apps with React Native and Expo or Capacitor, usually alongside iPhone, and publishes them on Google Play under your own developer account.

ODEL builds Android apps with React Native and Expo, or Capacitor for games, and publishes them on Google Play under the client's own developer account, usually together with the iPhone version from one codebase. You work directly with the developer who builds it. The project runs from a discovery call and written scope to clickable screens, test builds on your Android phone, Play Console setup, the closed test Google requires for new personal accounts, and production release. Google Play Billing for subscriptions, the Data safety form and account deletion are part of the build, not afterthoughts. You own the code, the Play Console account and the listing. ODEL's own apps on Google Play include DishBook, a recipe keeper and meal planner, Unvay for quitting smoking and vaping, the toddler games app Toddly, the camera workout game Warmify and the party game Cluekin.

## Who it is for

- Founders who want iPhone and Android from one codebase
- Businesses with an iPhone app that now need the Android version
- Markets where most customers use Android phones
- Owners who want the Play Console account and the code in their own name

## When ODEL is not the right fit

- Projects that must be written in native Kotlin, or that target Wear OS, Android TV or Android Auto as the main surface: hire a native Android specialist
- Apps that depend on custom hardware drivers or device management for a fleet of company phones
- Teams that need several developers working in parallel on a fixed short deadline: an agency fits better

## What you get

- Written scope covering both platforms or Android only
- Android app in React Native and Expo or Capacitor, with full source code in your repository
- Test builds on your Android phone at every milestone
- Google Play Billing subscriptions or one-time purchases, if needed
- Play Console setup in your account: listing, screenshots, content rating, Data safety form
- Closed testing track set up and run when your account needs it
- Production release and update process documented
- Handover notes for any future developer

## How the project runs

1. **Discovery and scope**: We agree what ships on Android, what is shared with iPhone and what waits. You get a fixed quote or a phased plan.
2. **Play Console in your name**: You create the Google Play developer account (25 USD one time; a D-U-N-S number for organization accounts) and invite ODEL as a user.
3. **Design and build**: Clickable screens first, then milestone builds you install on your own Android phone.
4. **Testing track**: Personal accounts created after November 13, 2023 must run a closed test with at least 12 testers for 14 days before production. We plan that into the timeline, or you use an organization account.
5. **Release and updates**: Store listing, Data safety form, release to production, then optional updates and ASO.

## Technology

React Native, Expo, Capacitor, Google Play Billing, Play Console, Android home screen widgets, Node.js and PostgreSQL for backends

## Questions

### How much does an Android app cost?

It depends on scope, whether the iPhone version shares the codebase, backend needs and payments. ODEL quotes after a discovery call. For context, Clutch's 2026 pricing guide (sample size not stated) lists 10,000 to 49,999 USD as the most common app project range and shows the same hourly band for iOS, Android and cross-platform work. Vendor blogs claim cross-platform saves about 30 to 40 percent versus two native apps (Idealogic 2026, a vendor estimate).

### How long until my app is live on Google Play?

Build time depends on scope. On top of it, plan for account setup and, for personal developer accounts created after November 13, 2023, a closed test with at least 12 opted-in testers for 14 continuous days before you can apply for production, per Google. Organization accounts need a D-U-N-S number instead.

### Do you write native Kotlin?

No. ODEL builds Android apps with React Native and Expo, or Capacitor for games, which covers most consumer and business apps and lets iPhone and Android share one codebase. If your project needs native Kotlin throughout, a native Android specialist is the better hire, and we will say so on the first call.

### What does Google charge on subscriptions?

It changed in 2026. In the US, UK, EEA, Australia and Japan, Google lists auto-renewing subscriptions at 10 percent plus a 5 percent billing fee; other markets keep 15 percent on subscriptions until the global rollout. Check Google's service fee page for your markets before you set prices.

### Who owns the app, the source code and the developer accounts?

You do. The app is published under your own Apple and Google developer accounts, the repository is yours, and the written agreement assigns the code and design to you; under US law, for example, a contractor owns the code by default unless there is a written assignment, so ask for that clause from anyone you hire. ODEL is added to your accounts as a team member and can be removed at any time.

### Who will I actually talk to during the project?

The developer who designs and builds your app. ODEL is a one-person studio run by Oguz Delioglu, so there is no account manager between you and the code: you get answers from the person writing it and test builds on your own phone at each milestone. The trade-off is capacity: ODEL takes on a small number of projects at a time.
