# iPhone medication reminders not showing up? A checklist to fix them

> Why pill reminders get silenced on iPhone (Focus, Scheduled Summary, notification settings) and how to check each one, for Apple Health or any pill app.

Most missed medication reminders on iPhone are not app bugs. They are notification settings: the app is not allowed to alert you, a Focus is filtering it, or Scheduled Summary is holding it back for later. Work through the checks below in order, then send yourself a test reminder five minutes from now to confirm it arrives.

> This guide is about phone settings, not about your treatment. It is not medical advice. If you missed a dose, ask your pharmacist or prescriber what to do.

## 1. Make sure the app is allowed to notify you

Open **Settings > Notifications**, tap the app that sends your reminders (Health, your pill app, or Reminders) and check that **Allow Notifications** is on. Under **Alerts**, turn on Lock Screen, Notification Center and Banners so a reminder is visible even when the phone is locked. Apple describes these options in [Change notification settings on iPhone](https://support.apple.com/en-us/guide/iphone/iph7c3d96bab/ios).

## 2. Take the app out of Scheduled Summary

Scheduled Summary collects notifications and delivers them in batches at set times. That is fine for news, but a reminder at 8:00 that arrives at 12:00 is no use. In the same app notification screen, under **Notification Delivery**, choose **Immediate Delivery**.

## 3. Allow Time Sensitive notifications

If the app supports it, the same screen shows **Time Sensitive Notifications**. Turn it on. Time Sensitive alerts are the ones designed to reach you during a Focus, if the Focus allows them.

## 4. Check every Focus you use

Sleep, Work, Driving and Do Not Disturb are all Focus modes, and each can be scheduled to turn on by itself. Open **Settings > Focus**, tap each Focus you use, and either add your reminder app to **Allowed Apps** or allow Time Sensitive notifications. Apple explains scheduling in [Turn on or schedule a Focus on iPhone](https://support.apple.com/en-us/guide/iphone/iph5c3f5b77b/ios). A morning dose that falls inside a Sleep schedule is a common cause of silent reminders.

## 5. Check the sound and the silent switch

A notification can arrive with no sound if the ring/silent switch or Action button is set to silent. If you rely on hearing the reminder, choose a sound for the app in its notification settings and keep the phone where you will notice it.

## 6. If you use Apple Health Medications

Apple's Medications feature has its own switch: in **Health > Browse > Medications > Options**, make sure **Dose Reminders** is on. You can also turn on follow-up reminders, which Apple says alert you if a dose is not logged 30 minutes after the first notification ([Apple Support](https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT213351)). Some people have reported reminders opening a blank screen or saved medications disappearing in [an Apple Community thread](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/255955677). If that happens to you, update iOS and re-check your medication list.

## 7. Send yourself a test

Create a reminder for five minutes from now, lock the phone and wait. If it does not show up, go back through steps 1 to 4 for that app. Repeat the test once with your usual Focus turned on.

## 8. Have a backup that does not depend on the phone

A weekly pill organizer or a printed schedule on the fridge still works when the phone is flat, in another room or silenced. Many people use both: the organizer shows at a glance whether today's slot is empty, and the phone gives the nudge.

## Where a dedicated pill app fits

If notifications now arrive but you still lose track, the problem is usually the record, not the alert. [PillBuddy](/app/pillbuddy) shows today's schedule, lets you snooze a reminder when it comes at a bad moment, and lets you mark each dose taken or skipped so you can check later instead of guessing. You choose reminder times and weekdays for each medication. Its core diary works without an account and keeps medication data on your device. PillBuddy is iPhone only and free to download, with an optional PillBuddy Pro subscription.

The same notification checks above apply to PillBuddy: allow notifications, use Immediate Delivery, and let it through your Focus modes.
