# App Store and Google Play screenshot sizes in 2026: a cheat sheet with the official rules

> Accepted iPhone, iPad and Google Play screenshot sizes, formats and limits, taken from Apple's and Google's own documentation, plus the mistakes that get uploads rejected.

For the App Store, the safest iPhone screenshot size in 2026 is 1320 x 2868 pixels portrait (the large Dynamic Island display), plus 2064 x 2752 for iPad if your app runs on iPad. For Google Play, upload JPEG or 24-bit PNG files between 320 and 3840 pixels on each side, with at least four screenshots of 1080 pixels or more if you want your app to be eligible for featuring. All figures below come from [Apple's screenshot specifications](https://developer.apple.com/help/app-store-connect/reference/app-information/screenshot-specifications/) and [Google Play Console Help](https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/9866151), checked in November 2026. Both stores change these pages, so check them before a big release.

## App Store: the rules

- **Formats:** .jpeg, .jpg or .png.
- **Count:** at least 1 and up to 10 screenshots per device size.
- **Transparency:** not allowed. Images can't include alpha channels or transparency.

## App Store: sizes that matter most

| Display | Portrait | Landscape |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone, large with Dynamic Island (about 6.9 inch) | 1320 x 2868, 1290 x 2796 or 1260 x 2736 | 2868 x 1320, 2796 x 1290 or 2736 x 1260 |
| iPhone, large with Face ID (about 6.5 inch) | 1284 x 2778 or 1242 x 2688 | 2778 x 1284 or 2688 x 1242 |
| iPad 13 inch | 2064 x 2752 or 2048 x 2732 | 2752 x 2064 or 2732 x 2048 |

How the requirements fit together, per Apple's page:

- The two large iPhone sets stand in for each other: if you don't upload the Dynamic Island large set, App Store Connect uses scaled screenshots from the Face ID large set, and the other way round.
- Smaller displays fall back to scaled screenshots from a larger one. Apple says that if your interface is the same across sizes, you only need to provide screenshots for the highest required resolution and App Store Connect scales them down.
- Apple's page also lists at least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display, for example 1206 x 2622) as the iPhone requirement, while noting that this size can use scaled large Face ID screenshots. If App Store Connect asks for that size, upload it there.
- iPad screenshots are required if your app runs on iPad.

## Google Play: the rules

From [Google Play Console Help](https://support.google.com/googleplay/android-developer/answer/9866151):

- **Formats:** JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha.
- **Dimensions:** minimum 320 px, maximum 3840 px, and the long side can be at most twice the short side.
- **Count:** at least two screenshots across device types to publish, up to 8 per device type.
- **For featuring:** apps need at least four screenshots at a minimum of 1080 px (for example 1080 x 1920 portrait); games need at least three.
- **Feature graphic:** 1024 x 500 px, JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha.
- **App icon:** 512 x 512 px, 32-bit PNG, up to 1024 KB.

## Mistakes that cause rejected uploads

1. **Transparency left in a PNG.** Both stores refuse alpha. Export as JPEG, or flatten the PNG onto a solid background.
2. **A size that is close but not exact.** App Store Connect accepts only the listed pixel sizes. Resizing 1290 x 2796 to "about" 1320 x 2868 by hand often lands a few pixels off.
3. **Too many files.** More than 10 per App Store device size, or more than 8 per Google Play device type, will not upload.
4. **Wrong aspect ratio on Google Play.** A very tall image fails the "long side at most twice the short side" rule.
5. **Low resolution on Google Play.** Images under 1080 px still publish but do not meet the featuring guideline.

## A simple workflow that avoids most problems

1. Design at the largest size you need: 1320 x 2868 for iPhone and 2064 x 2752 for iPad.
2. Keep important text away from the edges so the same design works on the Google Play ratio.
3. Export PNG without transparency, or JPEG.
4. Make a separate export for Google Play at 1080 x 1920 or larger.
5. Check the count per device size before you upload.

You can do this in Figma, Canva or any image editor, as long as you set the canvas sizes yourself. Reviewers note Canva has no store-specific size checks ([gainframe](https://gainframe.app/blog/best-app-store-screenshot-tools/)), so double-check the pixel sizes when exporting.

## Where Appalize Shots fits

[Appalize Shots](/app/appalize-shots), which we make, is a mobile app for App Store and Google Play screenshots. You build the set on your device from six editable layouts with device frames and captions, edit all screens together, and export full-resolution PNGs or a multi-size ZIP, so you are not setting up each size by hand. It does not upload to the stores or translate captions, and it is a new app with no ratings yet.
